As we move into Week Four of your Biology revision journey…
This week we turn our attention to two central Unit 2 chapters:
Enzymes
Energy Carriers
These topics are at the heart of metabolism. They underpin nearly every process you’ll meet in Leaving Cert Biology, from Photosynthesis and Respiration to DNA replication and Protein synthesis.
👉 Enzymes is a heavy-hitter chapter: not only is it conceptually important, but it also carries four mandatory Q9 experiments which means it’s likely to feature in some form on your exam paper.
👉 Energy Carriers (ATP, NADP⁺, NAD⁺) give you the biochemical “currency” that ties all of Unit 2 together, linking energy transfer across all living systems.
📦 Mandatory Enzyme Experiments (Q9)
To investigate the effect of pH on enzyme activity
To investigate the effect of temperature on enzyme activity
To investigate the effect of heat denaturation on enzyme activity
To prepare an enzyme immobilisation and examine its application
As always, your weekly plan includes:
• A chapter learning confidence checklist
• Core topics to revise
• Exam-style assessment questions to test your progress
💡 Examiner tip: Enzymes + Energy Carriers link directly to Photosynthesis and Respiration. Nail them now, and you’ll make those major chapters much easier when they come up later in the plan.
Stick with the plan 💪 these are high-return chapters that examiners revisit again and again.
