6th Year Biology Revision: Week Seven

ree

As we move into Week Seven of your Biology revision journey…

This week we turn our attention to Monera and Fungi — two Unit 3 chapters.

👉 Monera covers the structure, nutrition, and reproduction of bacteria, along with their economic importance. You’ll learn how bacterial cells differ from human cells, the role of plasmids and flagella, and how bacteria adapt to survive unfavourable conditions by forming endospores. A clear understanding of terms like saprophytic, parasitic, and pathogenic is essential for both short and long exam questions.

👉 Fungi explores the structure and life cycle of Rhizopus and Yeast, comparing asexual and sexual reproduction and explaining their importance in nature and industry. You’ll also study the difference between beneficial and harmful fungi, and investigate how yeast respires and grows on agar plates — key skills for experimental questions.

📦 Mandatory Experiments (Q10)

• To investigate the growth of leaf yeast using agar plates and controls

As always, your weekly plan includes:

✅ A chapter learning confidence checklist

Core topics to revise

Exam-style assessment questions to test your progress

💡 Examiner Tip: Monera and Fungi are frequently tested in Section A as definitions and diagrams and Section C. Knowing your comparisons — bacteria vs. fungi, prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic, and asexual vs. sexual reproduction — will help you secure top marks.
