6th Year Biology Revision: Week Six

ree

As we move into Week Six of your Biology revision journey…

This week we turn our attention to Structure and Transport in Flowering Plants — two Unit 3 chapters that ties plant anatomy directly to function.

👉 Plant Structure covers the organisation of roots, stems, and leaves, and how these structures are adapted to maximise photosynthesis, storage, and support. A clear grasp of plant tissues (xylem, phloem, dermal, ground, and meristematic) will help you in both short questions and diagram-based answers.

👉 Transport in Plants explains how water and minerals move through xylem via root pressure, capillary action, and transpiration, while sugars are distributed by phloem in translocation. This chapter links back to diffusion, osmosis, and active transport, so revision from last week feeds directly into this.

📦 Mandatory Experiment (Q10)

• To prepare and examine a transverse section of a dicotyledonous stem

As always, your weekly plan includes:

  • A chapter learning confidence checklist

  • Core topics to revise

  • Exam-style assessment questions to test your progress

💡 Examiner tip: Plant Structure and Transport regularly appear in Section A  and in Q10 of Section B as practicals. Mastering terminology (e.g., cohesion-tension model, lignin, sieve tube elements) and being confident with diagrams is key to securing marks here.

Stick with the plan 💪 nail this chapter now and you’ll have the foundation for Ecology, Photosynthesis, and Homeostasis later in the course.
